Types of Body Worn Cameras

Not all body worn cameras are the same. Different deployment environments need different form factors and feature sets.
Chest-Mounted Body Worn Cameras
The most common type used by security guards and police personnel. Worn on the chest using a clip, harness, or magnetic mount, these cameras provide a stable forward-facing view that closely represents what the wearer sees. They are the most visible to people the officer is interacting with which itself has a documented deterrent effect on aggressive behaviour.
Best for: Security guards, police constables, traffic enforcement officers, revenue inspectors, event security personnel.

Shoulder or Epaulette-Mounted Cameras
These mount on the shoulder epaulette of a uniform and provide a slightly elevated view. They are less obstructive during physical activity and are common in uniformed police forces. Some models are designed to look like standard uniform badges, making them discreet without being hidden.
Best for: Uniformed police forces, paramilitary personnel, customs officers.

Helmet-Mounted Cameras
Designed for situations where a chest or shoulder mount is impractical field operations, disaster response teams, fire safety inspectors, and situations requiring a POV (point-of-view) perspective. Helmet cameras are often used alongside chest cams in high-risk operations for complete incident documentation.
Best for: Fire departments, disaster management teams, field investigation officers, SWAT and tactical teams.

Covert Body Worn Cameras
Designed to look like everyday objects buttons, pens, spectacles, or lapel badges covert body worn cameras are used for undercover operations where visible recording equipment would compromise the operation. These require strict legal authorization and are used exclusively by law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Best for: Undercover law enforcement operations, anti-corruption investigations, covert field inspections.
